Brenon Knocks Off Nation's Top-Ranked Wrestler And Ithaca Rolls to 41-3 Wrestling Win

Doylestown, Pa. – The fourth-ranked wrestling team (11-2) earned bonus points in six of their nine victories, throttling #23 Delaware Valley (6-6-1) 41-3 Thursday. Ithaca's rout snapped the Aggies' 27-match home winning streak, which dated back to 2006.

Junior Derek Brenon (Immaculate Heart Central/Watertown) posted the night's biggest victory, winning in a match between Division III's top two ranked wrestlers at 141 pounds. Brenon, ranked second nationally was a 4-2 winner over Delaware Valley's top-ranked competitor. Brenon won on a last-minute takedown and improved to 20-1 on the season (5-0 in dual meets). He's 39-7 in his career.

The Bombers' two other second-ranked wrestlers were both winners as well; junior Jeremy Stierly (Owen J. Roberts/Pottstown, Pa.) blanked his opponent 11-0 for a major decision at 141 pounds and senior Blaine Woszczak (Wall/Manasquan, N.J.) won by fall at 149 pounds.

Stierly, whose shutout came over a returning all-American and upped his season record to 14-1 (9-0 in dual meets). The major decision was his fifth of the season and gives him a career record of 69-16.

Woszczak stretched his winning streak to 14, recording his second consecutive pin. The fall was Woszczak's seventh of the season (second on the team) and raised his record to 26-2 (12-0 in dual meets). With a career record of 128-34, he's a win away from tying Bob Panariello (1981-85) atop Ithaca's all-time victory list.

Three other Bombers were winners by fall, starting with senior David Priest (Wyomissing/Douglassville, Pa.), who opened the match with a second-period pin at 174 pounds. Priest, who is ranked ninth nationally, is now 18-3 this winter with an 11-2 dual-match record. With six pins, he's third on the team and moved to within five wins of becoming the 17th Bomber to reach 100 career victories (he's 95-29 overall).

Junior Matt Mahon (Brighton/Rochester), the nation's sixth-ranked heavyweight, needed just 22 seconds to pick up his team-best 15th pin. Mahon is 19-6 on the year and 65-21 – with 43 falls – as a Bomber.

Freshman Dominick Giacalone (Cato-Meridian/Cato) recorded a rare overtime fall to win his bout at 125 pounds. He's 9-7 on the season.

Junior Seth Ecker (Pottstown/Pottstown, Pa.) was a shutout winner at 133 pounds, where he's ranked third nationally. Ecker, who won 7-0, is 22-4 this year and 68-16 in his career.
