Late Rally Falls Short For Ithaca Field Hockey

Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca field hockey team (4-11) rallied for two goals in the final seven minutes of the second half and pressed for the game-tying goal, but fell 3-2 to visiting Geneseo (10-8) in a match Wednesday afternoon at Higgins Stadium.

Geneseo scored four minutes into the game and added two goals in less than a minute early in the second half to take a 3-0 lead.

The Bombers got on the scoreboard with 6:55 remaining in the second half as junior forward Julia Conroy (Westfield/Westfield, N.J.) tallied her third of the season by converting a crossing pass along the goal line by sophomore midfielder Sam English (Ocean Township/Ocean, N.J.).

Ithaca was awarded a penalty stroke less than three minutes later and senior forward Heather Kozimor (Hackettstown/Vienna, N.J.) converted the stroke inside of the right post to bring the Bombers to within one. Ithaca earned a penalty corner in the closing minute and generated pressure inside of the circle, but Geneseo successfully defended and held on for the win.

Junior goalkeeper Kelly Singleton (Irondequoit/Rochester) made eight saves in the game.

The Bombers will conclude their regular season Saturday at home against Elmira, a 1 p.m. game at Higgins Stadium.
