ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca men's swimming & diving team defeated visiting Rochester 224-76 Saturday in the final scheduled meet at Hill Center Pool and on Senior Day, setting two Hill Center records in the process.
Freshman
Connor White (Fox Lane/Pound Ridge) won the 100-yard backstroke in 53.64 seconds, the 100-yard butterfly in 53.34 seconds and swam the opening leg of Ithaca's victorious 200-yard medley relay team (1:37.72) that also included sophomore
Jake Lichter (Weston/Weston, Mass.), freshman
Taylor Van Cott (Bethlehem/Delmar) and junior
Antoine Connors (Spartanburg/Spartanburg, S.C.). The 200 medley relay time was a pool record.
Junior
Jeff Rapp (Liverpool/Liverpool) was also a double-winner in individual events as he won the 200-yard backstroke in 1:59.34 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:02.07.
Lichter won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.11,
Connors won the 100-yard freestyle in 49.16 seconds and
Van Cott won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:00.48.
Junior
Derek Rand (Amity Regional/Orange, Conn.) and sophomore
Martin Brown (McLean/McLean, Va.) swept the top-two places on both diving boards.
Rand was first on the 3-meter board with a score of 283.10 and second on 1-meter with 247.75 points.
Brown scored 260.55 on the 1-meter board to place first and was second on 3-meter with a score of 273.45.
Other individual event winners for Ithaca included sophomore
Chris Cadwell (C.W. Baker/Baldwinsville) in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.07), freshman
John Carr (Brewster/Brewster) in the 500-yard freestyle (5:05.90), freshman
Cheffy Thomas (Carmel/Carmel, Ind.) in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:19.07) and freshman
Zack Kundel (Bethlehem/Glenmont) in the 50-yard freestyle (21.72 seconds).
Ithaca capped the meet by winning the 200-yard freestyle relay as the quartet of
Connors,
Carr, sophomore
Jake Robbins (Fairport/Fairport) and
Kundel touched in 1:26.99, also a pool record.
Ithaca honored its six seniors at the meet. The senior class includes
Steve Croucher (Dallastown/York, Pa.),
Jerry Diamond (Junction City/Junction City, Ore.),
Bobby Gendimenico (Hillsborough/Hillsborough, N.J.),
Mike Glicini (Dallas/Dallas, Pa.),
Kramer Jakubek (Monroe-Woodbury/Monroe) and
Norman Nguyen (Brookline/Brookline, Mass.).
Ithaca competes in dual-meet action Saturday at Alfred.
