Geneva, N.Y. - The Ithaca field hockey team (3-2) yielded three goals in the first half and lost 3-1 to #19 William Smith (5-0) Tuesday night at McCooey Field. Ithaca scored on the final plays of the game, during a penalty corner opportunity as the second half expired.
The Herons scored in the 14th minute to take the lead, and added two more in a span of four minutes later in the first half.
Ithaca's goal was scored by sophomore forward
Julia Conroy (Westfield/Westfield, N.J.), assisted by senior back
Mia Muzio (Rockport/Rockport, Mass.). It was
Conroy's first goal of the season and the first assist of the year for
Muzio.
Sophomore goalie
Kelly Singleton (Irondequoit/Rochester), the reigning Empire 8 and ECAC Mid-Atlantic Goalkeeper of the Week, made 11 saves.
Ithaca begins conference play Saturday at winless Stevens Institute of Technology.
