ITHACA, N.Y.--Despite picking up 13 hits, the Bombers fell 12-7 to visiting Montclair State (23-18) Saturday afternoon at Freeman Field. Four batters had multi-hit games for Ithaca (19-18), including junior Trevor Wolf (Lansing/Freeville), who hit a three-run game-tying home run in the fifth inning.
Wolf's shot, which was pulled over the right field fence, capped a four run Ithaca fifth that tied the score at six runs apiece. Wolf is the team leader with four home runs on the season.
Montclair State broke the tie in the top of the sixth, scoring three runs. In the bottom half of that inning, a single from junior Jarrod Surine (Trumansburg/Trumansburg) scored senior #T.J. Abone# (Rome Free Academy/Rome) to pull the score to 9-7.
The Red Hawks added two insurance runs in the seventh and one more in the eighth while holding Ithaca scoreless over the final three frames.
Wolf, junior Rob Zappia (Greece Athena/Rochester) and freshmen Matt Keller (Pelham/Pelham) and Sean Weber (Columbia/East Schodack) each had two hits for the Bombers. Zappia scored a pair of runs out of the leadoff spot.
The two teams return to action Sunday with a 1 p.m. matchup.
