ITHACA, N.Y.--The Bombers (14-13) moved to 12-4 in regional play with a 13-5 win over visiting Oneonta (24-9) Thursday afternoon at Freeman Field. Ithaca has collected 26 runs and 39 hits over its last two games, both wins.
Junior Matt Streich (East Greenwich/East Greenwich) went 4-for-5 in the game, scoringone run and driving in another. Freshman Matt Keller (Pelham/Pelham) picked up four hits, with junior David Ahonen (Victor/Farmington) and freshman Sean Weber (Columbia/East Schodack) each recording a pair of hits.
Keller drove in a career-high four runs in the win, with Ahonen and Weber each batting in two.
On the mound, junior Andrew Wall (Newfield/Newfield) picked up his third win of the season. Over five innings he surrendered a single earned run. Wall allowed just three hits and struck out five Red Dragons.
Ithaca scored six runs in the bottom of the first to get on the board early. The Bombers had six hits in the inning, including RBI doubles from Ahonen, Keller and sophomore Russ Martens (Avon/Avon, Conn.).
The Bombers scored a solo run in the bottom of the second, and were up 7-3 entering the bottom of the fourth. In that inning senior #T.J. Abone# (Rome Free Academy/Rome) drove in junior Trevor Wolf (Lansing/Freeville) with an opposite-field double. Keller drove in Abone and Weber with a single to extend the lead to 10-3.
After Oneonta scored twice in the top of the seventh to cut the lead to 10-5, Ithaca scored three more times in the bottom of the frame. Freshman Ian Gaule (Columbia/East Greenbush) and junior Rob Zappia (Greece Athena/Rochester) picked up RBI singles, with Streich driving in the game's final run on a triple.
The Bombers return to action Saturday at 2 p.m. against Brockport.
