Brockport, N.Y.--The Bombers took early control of the game en route to an 88-67 win over Renssealar Polytechnic Institute (15-10) Saturday night in the semifinal round of the ECAC Championship Tournament. Top-seeded Ithaca (19-8) will take on host Brockport (17-11) in the championship game Sunday at 2 p.m.
Ithaca took the lead for good less than four minutes into the game, when a three-pointer from junior Chris Cruz-Rivas (Syracuse/West Genesee) put the Bombers up 8-6. Cruz-Rivas, who netted 19 points in the win, was one of three Ithaca players to reach double digits. Sophomore Jordan Marcus (Solomon Schechter/West Orange, N.J.) scored 21, while freshman Andrei Oztemel (Staples/Westport, Conn.) came off the bench with a game-leading 22 points.
Marcus scored 14 of his points in the first half to help the Bombers to a 49-34 lead at halftime. Ithaca never trailed by fewer than 11 points in the second half, and got a team-leading 11 points and four rebounds from Oztemel in the second half.
Ithaca made 16 three-pointers in the game, with Oztemel totaling six, Marcus five and Cruz-Rivas three.
Freshman Sean Rossi (Sparta/Sparta, N.J.) picked up nine assists in the win, giving him 218 on the season. He set a new Ithaca single-season recording, breaking the mark set by Sean Burton in the 2008-09 season.
Senior #Tom Brown (Bayport-Blue Point/Bayport) grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds in the win. Brown has reached double figures in rebounds in three of his last four games.
Ithaca defeated Brockport en route to both of their ECAC titles. The Bombers defeated The Golden Eagles at Brockport in the seminfinals of the 2000 playoffs, and beat them at Oswego in the 2006 semifinals.
