ITHACA, N.Y. - Despite a loss against St. Lawrence University on the road in the first round of the Liberty League playoffs last Tuesday, the Ithaca College men's basketball team placed multiple players on the All-Liberty League Teams, recognizing their outstanding performances throughout the season. The league announced the teams on March 3.
Junior guard
Evan Cabral earned Second Team All-Liberty League this year. Cabral has now been named back-to-back Second Team All- Liberty League honors two years in a row after claiming the Liberty League title last year. Cabral averaged 17.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game this season. He recorded a career-high 33 points in a road win at RIT and started 20 of the 23 games he played for the Bombers. Cabral missed three games and came off the bench in three others due to injury. Despite those setbacks, he served as a consistent offensive leader and playmaker throughout the year, finishing with 408 total points. He ranked third in the Liberty League in scoring and currently sits just three points shy of reaching 1,000 career points.
The first-year Bomber,
Matthew Zenker makes an appearance on the Liberty League Third Team following a strong campaign marked by efficient scoring. In conference play, Zenker averaged 16.4 points per game, 5.2 rebounds while 1.7 of them being offensive. Zenker was fourth in the conference in field goal percentage (51.9%) and led the Liberty League in 3-PT Field Goal Percentage at an outstanding 42.7%. Zenker netted a game high of 5 3PM at Skidmore in December. The New York City native scored a season-high 26 points on opening night vs. Brockport in Ben Light Gymnasium.
Although the season ended earlier than hoped, the honors earned by
Evan Cabral and
Matthew Zenker reflect the talent and competitiveness that defined the Bombers' season. With Cabral nearing the 1,000-point milestone and Zenker establishing himself as one of the league's most efficient scorers, the Bombers head into next season with strong momentum and a foundation to build for continued success in the Liberty League.
