Baseball Loses 8-4 At Mary Washington

Fredericksburg, Va. -- The baseball team (2-8) lost 8-4 at Mary Washington (11-5) Saturday. All of Ithaca's scoring came in the fourth inning. The Bombers conclude their mid-Atlantic road swing Sunday with noon game at Salisbury.

Junior Matt Streich (East Greenwich/East Greenwich, R.I.) led off the second with a single, and promptly stole second. Freshman Matt Keller (Pelham/Pelham) reached first and moved Streich to third on a fielder's choice. Streich scored on a passed ball, with Keller coming home on a double from sophomore Mike Preite (Hopkinton/Hopkinton, Mass.).

After a walk by senior catcher Mike Armstrong (Penfield/Penfield) and a sacrifice bunt from classmate Jon Krakower (The Berkshire School/Albany), the Bombers picked up a run on a groundball from junior Rob Zappia (Greece Athena/Rochester) and a Mary Washington error.

The Eagles scored three times in the bottom of the inning to close the gape to a single run, and took the lead with a three-run sixth. Mary Washington added two more scores in the eighth.

Streich and Preite both had two hits for Ithaca, with Streich adding a pair of steals.

Junior Dan Lynch (Williamsville South/East Amherst) drew the start for the Bombers and allowed two earned runs in five innings. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.
