Whittier, Calif.--Ithaca (1-7) closed its California trip with an 11-1 victory over Whittier (6-17) Sunday afternoon. The Bombers second through fifth hitters combined to go 8-for-17. Junior Andrew Wall (Newfield/Newfield) picked up his first career win, and allowed just one earned run over seven innings.
Whitter scored its only run in the top of the second, but the Bombers scored twice in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead for good. Junior Matt Streich (East Greenwich/East Greenwich, R.I.) hit a one out home run and freshman Matt Keller (Pelham/Pelham) followed with a two out shot.
In the fourth, Streich and senior #T.J. Abone# (Rome Free Academy/Rome) both scored in the fourth on a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt from Keller. Ithaca put up another run in the inning on a sacrifice fly from senior Jon Krakower (The Berkshire School/Albany).
The Bombers blew the game open in the late innings, plating three runs in the seventh and two in the eighth. Wolf drove in the game's final two runs on a home run to right.
Wall stuck out four men in the game, while allowing six hits and a walk. Freshman Jasper Adams (Amherst Regional/Amherst) pitched a scoreless eighth.
Eight of Ithaca's starters picked up at least one hit and one run. Wolf, Streich, Abone and junior David Ahonen (Victor Farmington) all scored two runs. Wolf, Ahonen, Streich, Keller and junior Rob Zappia (Greece Athena/Rochester) all notched two hits.
Ithaca returns to action Wednesday at New Paltz.
