Baseball Edged by Chapman

 

Chapman, Calif.--The Bombers (0-4) fell 4-3 to 10th-ranked Chapman Wednesday afternoon. Junior Andrew Wall (Newfield/Newfield) made his first career start, allowing two earned runs in 5.1 innings.

After falling behind 4-0 to open the game, Ithaca cut the deficit with two runs in the fifth. Junior Jarrod Surine (Trumansburg/Trumansburg) scored on a balk, while freshman Andrew Turner (Randolph/Randolph, N.J.) drove in a run with a double.

The Bombers cut the lead to one run in the sixth after juniors Trevor Wolf (Lansing/Freeville) and Matt Streich (East Greenwich/East Greenwich, R.I.) led off the inning with consecutive singles. Sophomore Russ Martens (Avon/Avon, Conn.) picked up and RBI on a groundout.

Wall struck out four batters in the game. Sophomore Tucker Healy (Needham/Needham, Mass.) relieved him and pithced 2.2 hitless innings.

Ithaca returns to action Friday with games against Pomona-Pitzer and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
