ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca field hockey team (2-5, 0-2 Empire 8) lost 1-0 to Hartwick (4-3, 1-0 Empire 8) Saturday in an Empire 8 game at Yavits Field in Ithaca. Senior goalkeeper Chelsea Welsh (Scotia-Glenville/Scotia) made her first start of the season and had 13 saves.
The Hawks scored the game's only goal in the 48th minute. The Bombers pressured over the last 10 minutes of the contest and earned six consecutive penalty corners and outshot Hartwick 4-1 in that span. Freshman forward Julia Conroy (Westfield/Westfield, N.J.) led Ithaca with three shots in the game.
Welsh's 13 saves were the second-highest single-game total in her career. She made 18 saves against Springfield as a sophomore.
Ithaca returns to action Wednesday at Oneonta at 4 p.m.
