ITHACA, N.Y.--The 24th-ranked Bombers (14-5, 5-1 Empire 8) downed Stevens Institute of Technology (10-12, 2-4 Empire 8) twice Sunday, winning 9-0 in game one and 3-1 in the second contest. Senior righthander Pete MacDaniel (Scuylerville/Gansevoort) threw a shutout in the game, the first of his career, to pick up his fifth win of the season. Sophomore Matt Parsons (Notre Dame/Bordertown, N.J.) hit a pair of run-scoring triples to pace the offense in the opener. Junior Tom Fishback (Penfield/Webster) threw a compete game in the nightcap.
MacDaniel allowed just four hits in his seven innings of work. He struck out four and walked one, improving to 5-0 on the season. Fishback held the Ducks to five hits and struck out six men. He evened his record at 3-3.
Ithaca rallied in the second game. With two outs in the fourth and the Bombers trailing 1-0, junior #T.J. Abone# (Rome/Rome Free Academy) tripled to right to score sophomores Trevor Wolf (Lansing/Freeville) and Matt Streich (East Greenwich/East Greenwich, R.I.). Fellow sophomore David Ahonen (Victor/Farmington) tacked on an insurance run in the fifth with a sacrifice fly.
Abone had two of Ithaca's six hits in game two.
In the first game, the Bombers got all the scoring they needed in the first inning. With two outs, Parsons tripled to right center to score Streich and senior Kurt Bednarcyk (Fairport/Fairport).
After scoring once in the third, Ithaca blew the game open with a six-run sixth inning. Bednarcyk knocked in a pair of runs on a single to left, while junior Brian Grastorf (Niskayuna/Rexford) and Ahonen each had run-scoring singles of their own. Parsons hit his second RBI triple of the game, while junior Mike Armstrong (Penfield/Penfield) drove in a run on a groundout.
Bednarcyk went 3-for-4 in game one, scoring three times. Ahonen had two hits and drove in a pair of runs.
The Bombers return to action Tuesday, hosting Old Westbury at 4 p.m.
