ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca men's lacrosse team (14-1, 7-1 Empire 8) hosts Nazareth (9-6, 5-3 Empire 8) in an Empire 8 Tournament semifinal game Friday at 4 p.m. at Upper Terrace Field. The Bombers are the defending tournament champions and top overall seed for this year's championship. Ithaca won the regular-season championship and is 35-2 over the last five Empire 8 seasons. The Bombers have been the top seed in the conference tournament six years in a row. Nazareth is the tournament's fourth seed.

The Bombers are currently ranked third in the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III Coaches Poll. It matches the highest ranking in program history, previously achieved earlier this season and in 2008. Ithaca is seeking its third conference title. They previously won the Empire 8 tournament in 2008 and were the regular-season champions in 2002, before the tournament existed.
Sophomore goalie David Gal and a veteran defense lead the way for the Bombers, who rank 20th in the nation in overall scoring defense with a 7.2 goals-against average, and led the Empire 8 during conference play with a 7.07 GAA. Senior defender Neth Wiedemann leads Ithaca with 70 ground balls and 38 caused turnovers. Fellow defensemen Nick Powers and Michael Serron have started all 15 Bomber games and are anchors in the back in front of Gal. Long-stick midfielder Matt Molnar and short-stick middie Michael Silipo also work primarily on the defensive end of the field. Gal ranks sixth nationally in save percentage, stopping better than 64 percent of the shots on goal he faces, and is 18th in the nation in goals-against average at 6.95.
Bomber faceoff specialists Nick Neuman and Michael Hennessy have combined to win possession for Ithaca better than 60 percent of the time.
Ithaca's offense is paced by attackman Alec Siefert, whose 39 goals and 51 points pace the team. Siefert recorded his 100th career point this season. Nic Heckman has 27 goals and 12 assists to rank second on the team in points. The Bombers' top assist man is Chris Carman. He has 18 assists and 35 points on the year.
