Brockport, N.Y.—Ithaca saw its four-game winning streak end Sunday, losing 4-3 at Brockport (). The Golden Eagles scored a run in each of the seventh and eighth to rally from a one-run deficit. Sophomore David Ahonen (Victor/Farmington) had three hits and two RBIs for the Bombers (24-7).
Ahonen drove in both of his runs in the first inning. With one out and runners on second and third, he pulled a single to left to score seniors Matt Samela (Staples/Westport, Conn.) and Dylan Perez (Conval Regional/Peterborough, N.H.).
Brockport scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game, and the two teams stayed knotted until the sixth inning. Ahonen led off the top of the sixth with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from junior #T.J. Abone# (Rome Free Academy/Rome). The next batter, sophomore Matt Streich (East Greenwich/East Greenwich), doubled to left field to score the Bomber third baseman.
The Golden Eagles threw Streich out at home on a fielder's choice to keep it a one-run game. They tied the game with an unearned run in the seventh, and scored the game-winning run on a hit batter in the eighth.
Streich and senior Alan Kartholl (John Jay/Fishkill) each had two hits for the Bombers.
Junior Tom Fishback (Penfield Webster) pitched his fifth complete game of the season. He allowed just three hits and one earned run against the Golden Eagles, and struck out five men.
The Bombers return to action Monday, with a 4 p.m. game at Oneonta.
