Oswego, N.Y.--For the second straight game the Bombers rode a big eighth inning to a win, scoring four times in the eighth Friday against Oswego (16-11) en route to a 5-2 victory. Sophomore Dan Lynch (Williamsville South/East Amherst) picked up the win to lead Ithaca (24-6) to their fourth straight win and their 12th in their last 13 games.
Down 2-1 in the eight, the 12th-ranked Bombers scored four times in the eighth to take the lead in the game. Down 2-1, Ithaca tied the game on a sacrifice fly from senior Dylan Perez (Conval Regional/Peterborough, N.H.). With one out and a man on third, senior David Ahonen (Victor Farmington) was intentionally walked to put two runners on. The next batter, junior #T.J. Abone# (Rome Free Academy/Rome) made the Lakers pay for the free pass, knocking in both baserunners with a single. Abone scored Ithaca's fourth run on a throwing error by the Oswego catcher.
Both the Bombers and the Lakers scored a run in the second inning. Ithaca took advantage of a pair of Oswego miscues, with Abone reaching and scoring on Laker errors.
Oswego took the lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh.
Lynch, who improved to 5-2 on the season, threw a pair of relief innings to earn up the win. He allowed just an unearned run and struck out three batters. Freshman Jackson Quinn (Roundout Valley/Accord) picked up a save in his collegiate debut. He pitched a perfect ninth, striking out a batter.
At the plate senior Kurt Bednarcyk (Fairport/Fairport) had two hits in five at-bats, scoring a run. Ithaca walked six times, including two walks from Ahonen and sophomore Matt Streich (East Greenwich/East Greenwich, R.I.).
After an off day Saturday, the Bomber return to action Sunday with a game at Brockport.
