Rochester, N.Y.— The seventh-ranked men's lacrosse team (11-1, 4-1, Empire 8) outscored host Nazareth (6-4, 3-1 Empire 8) 8-2 over the second and third quarters – despite being outshot 33-15 in that span – en route to a 10-5 win. With the win the Bombers move into first place atop the Empire 8 standings. Ithaca set a school record with 21 caused turnovers.
The Bombers have now beaten Nazareth in each of the past six years after losing their first 11 meetings with the Golden Flyers.
Junior attack Nic Heckman (Sparta/Sparta, N.J.) led the Bombers with career-high totals of four goals and five points. His second goal of the game put Ithaca up for good midway through the second quarter and sparked a 7-1 Bomber run. He raised his career total to 84 points.
Senior attack Kevin Bush (Arapahoe [Colo.]/St. George Island, Fla.) added a pair of goals and junior midfielder Nick Neuman (Madison West/Madison, Wis.) collected a goal and an assist.
Sophomore David Gal (Loomis Chaffee [Conn.]/Amherst, Mass.) stopped 18 shots – his fifth outing with at least 15 saves – for the Bombers, who were outshot 47-31 for the game.
Senior defense Neth Wiedemann (Episcopal School of Dallas/Dallas, Texas) picked up seven ground balls to match a career high and sophomore Michael Hennessy (Owen J. Roberts/Spring City) won 12 of 17 face-offs (Ithaca was 14 of 19 at the X).
The Bombers host Elmira in an Empire 8 game Wednesday at 4 p.m.
