Baseball Falls to Pomona-Pitzer

Dylan Perez had three hits for the Bombers.

Claremont, Calif.—The Bombers (1-1) suffered their first loss of the year, falling 10-6 to Pomona-Pitzer. Seniors Kurt Bednarcyk (Fairport/Fairport) and Dylan Perez (Conval Regional/Peterborough, N.H.) each had multi-hit games against the Sagehens (11-2).

Ithaca jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the game, scoring three runs on a homer from sophomore Matt Streich (East Greenwich/East Greenwich, R.I.) in the first inning. In two games this season Streich, a transfer to Ithaca this year, has driven in five runs.

Bednarcyk scored for the Bombers in fourth. He led off with a single, moved to third on a base hit from Perez and scored on a double play. He went 2-for-4 in the game.

The Sagehens scored a pair of runs in both the second and fifth innings, as well as five in the sixth to take a 9-4 lead. Perez pulled Ithaca within three runs on an eighth-inning single that drove in junior Brian Grastorf (Niskayuna/Rexford) and senior Alan Kartholl (John Jay/Fishkill). Perez went 3-for-5 on the day.

Making his collegiate debut, freshman Brian Eggleston (Chenango Valley/Binghamton) did not allowed an earned run in 2 2/3 innings out of the bullpen.

The Bomber's California trip continues Tuesday with a 5:30 EST game against Occidental.
