Baseball Defeats Whittier 6-4

Lynch won his first career game.

Whittier, Calif.--The Bombers (4-2) won their second straight game Saturday, defeating Whittier (8-1) 6-4. Sophomore Dan Lynch (Williamsville South/East Amherst) picked up the win for Ithaca, with sophomore Matt Streich (East Greenwich/East Greenwich, R.I.) leading the offense with three runs batted in.

The Bombers got on the board quickly with a four-run first inning. Streich hit a three-run homer in the inning, with sophomore third baseman David Ahonen (Victor/Farmington) adding an RBI single.

Senior first baseman and team captain Alan Kartholl (John Jay/Fishkill) added the fifth Ithaca run in the second, driving in a runner on a single.

After Whittier scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning, Kartholl tacked on an insurance run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh that scored Ahonen.

Ahonen went 3-for-4 with three runs scored for the Bombers, with Streich and Kartholl each picking up a pair of hits.

Lynch threw seven innings, allowing just six hits. He struck out two and did not walk a batter.

Ithaca returns to the field Sunday with games against Menlo and Pomona-Pitzer.
