Rochester, N.Y.--Led by a season-high 32 points from senior guard Sean Burton (Notre Dame/Yorkville), the Bombers (23-1, 14-1 Empire 8) routed Nazareth 113-86 Friday night. The win over Nazareth (11-13, 8-7) was Ithaca's school record 23rd of the season, and clinched the top seed in the Empire 8 playoffs for the Bombers. The conference tournament begins Feb. 28 at Ithaca's Ben Light Gymnasium.
Burton also distributed 13 assists for his sixth double-double of the season. He added four steals.
As a team, Ithaca eclipsed 100 points for the sixth time this season, including the second time against Nazareth. The Bombers averaged nearly 117.5 points in thier two wins over the Golden Flyers.
Five Bombers, including Burton, scored at least 10 points. Freshman Jordan Marcus (Solomon Schechter/West Orange, N.J.) matched his career-high with 25 points and made seven three-point baskets, most for any Bomber this season.
Senior Sean Leahy (West Genesee/Syracuse) recorded his second straight double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. He has six double-doubles this season and seven in his career. Senior Brendan Rogers (Liverpool/Liverpool) scored 15 points with sophomore Chris Cruz (Camillus/West Genesee) adding 10.
Ithaca shot better than 53% from the floor in the win, and made 15 three-pointers. The Bombers outrebounded the Golden Flyers 46-33.
Ithaca concludes its regular season Sunday with a 2 p.m. matchup with Rochester Institute of Technology.
