ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca field hockey team (2-8) held a first-half lead but lost 3-1 to Wilkes (9-2) Wednesday afternoon in windy conditions at Yavits Field in Ithaca.
Freshman forward Amanda Rissmeyer (Watchung Hills Regional/Millington, N.J.) scored the game's opening goal in the eighth minute on an assist from junior forward Katherine Brown (Akron/Akron). It was the first career goal for Rissmeyer and her first career points. Brown's assist was her team-leading sixth of the year and moved her into a tie for the team lead in scoring with 10 points.
Senior goalkeeper Chelsea Welsh (Scotia-Glenville/Scotia) made 12 saves, her second highest single-game total this season and the third best of her career. Junior back Mia Muzio (Rockport/Rockport, Mass.) made a defensive save, the first of the year for an Ithaca player.
Ithaca returns to Empire 8 play Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Bombers visit Nazareth.
