Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior Matt Carolan (Northampton Area/Walnutport, Pa.) won three individual events to lead the Ithaca men's swimming & diving team (12-4) to a 160-138 victory at Le Moyne (6-3) Saturday afternoon.
Carolan started his winning ways by touching first in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:42.50. He also won the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.75) and 500 free (5:09.59). The Bombers swept all three top finishes in the 200 fly as senior Ryan Wright (Methacton/Eagleville, Pa.) followed Carolan and senior Brennan Hagy (LaSalle/Wyndmoor, Pa.) finished third. Wright also finished second in the 100 fly.
Freshman Derek Rand (Amity/Orange, Conn.) was Ithaca's top diver. He finished first in the 1-meter board 11-dive competition with a score of 225.80 points and was second in the 1-meter board six-dive competition with a score of 134.95.
Sophomore Joe Gage (Edwin Oscar Smith/Storrs, Conn.) won the 200 individual medley in 2:00.21 and finished second in both the 50 free and 100 free.
Freshman Jeff Rapp (Liverpool/Liverpool) was second in the 200-yard backstroke and third in the 100 back. Freshman Antoine Connors (Spartanburg/Spartanburg, S.C.) was second in the 100 back.
Other valuable second-place finishes were turned in by sophomore Jerry Diamond (Junction City/Junction City, Ore.) in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke, freshman Josh Leary (Central Catholic/Pittsburgh, Pa.) in the 1,000 free, sophomore Steve Croucher (Dallastown Area/York, Pa.) in the 200 free, and senior Mike Ariel (Xaverian Brothers/Norwood, Mass.) in the 500 free. The Bombers were also second in the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay.
The Ithaca divers will host the Ithaca College Diving Invitational Sunday at 10 a.m. and the team will return to dual meet action Saturday at Union.
