ITHACA, N.Y. – The #11 men's basketball team (16-1, 7-1 Empire 8) recorded its fifth 100-point effort of the season, routing the visiting Elmira Soaring Eagles (3-14, 1-7 Empire 8) 106-84.
Senior point guard Sean Burton (Notre Dame/Utica) led Ithaca with 22 points and eight assists. He raised his career total to 1,498 points, moving within a basket of becoming the program's fourth player to reach 1,500.
Four other Bombers scored in double digits, including sophomore guard Chris Cruz (West Genesee/Camillus), who netted 19. Freshman guard Jordan Marcus (Solomon Schechter/West Orange, N.J.) added 18 points off the bench and senior center Jeff Bostic (Geneva/Rochester) and senior forward Sean Leahy (West Genesee/Syracuse) added 10 apiece.
Leahy led Ithaca with nine rebounds. Sophomore forward Phil Barera (Belmont/Belmont, Mass.) added seven.
The Soaring Eagles opened the second half with a 14-1 run that cut Ithaca's lead to one point. Elmira pulled to within a point twice in the next two minutes before the Bombers used a 14-1 run to take control.
The two teams combined to make 55 of 64 free throws.
The Bombers stretched their winning streak against Elmira to 15 and improved to 32-18 all-time against the Soaring Eagles, including a 19-4 mark in Ben Light Gymnasium.
Ithaca continues Empire 8 play Saturday, playing a 4 p.m. game at Utica.
