Oneonta, N.Y.—Holding their opponents to a season-low points total, the 13th-ranked men's basketball team (14-1, 5-1 Empire 8) defeated Hartwick 56-49 Friday night. Senior Jeff Bostic (Geneva/Geneva) picked up a double-double against the Hawks (7-5, 1-3 Empire 8), his fourth in his last five games.
Bostic totaled 16 points and 11 rebounds, top figures among all players. He made seven of his 11 field goal attempts. Bostic also picked up a season-high four blocks.
The Bombers led by as many as 11 points in the second half before a 16-5 Hawk run tied the score at 39 apiece with slightly under 13 minutes to play. Consecutive three-pointers from senior Sean Burton (Notre Dame/Yorkville) and freshman Jordan Marcus (Solomon Schechter/West Orange, N.J.) put the Bombers back on top, and they would not trail by fewer than three points for the remainder of the contest. Each assisted on the other's basket.
Burton scored 12 points, with Marcus contributing nine. Each made a pair of three-pointers, with Burton adding seven assists.
The two teams played close in the opening half, with Hartwick holding a 17-16 lead with under eight minutes to play. A layup from senior Brendan Rogers (Liverpool/Liverpool) gave the Bombers the lead, and they closed the half on a 13-7 run.
Ithaca is idle until Jan. 25, when they travel to Stevens Institute of Technology.
