Bombers Blank Nazareth 5-0 In Empire 8 Women's Soccer Final

ITHACA, N.Y. – The #25 women's soccer team (14-2-2) won its sixth Empire 8 title in seven years, blanking Nazareth (12-7-1) by a score of 5-0 on Sunday. Ithaca's five goals set a tournament final record. The win clinches Ithaca its 19th NCAA playoff appearance – the most of any school.

The Bombers raced to a 4-0 lead at half time, lead by junior forward Winnie Adrien (Blairstown Academy/Blair, N.J.) who, scored twice and registered an assist. With five points on the day, Adrien leads the team with 36, the third best total in a season in Bomber history.

The other three Bomber goals came from Ithaca seniors: midfielder Chelsea Stouffer (Wheatland-Chili/Scottsville) and forward Lauren Koppel (Southside/Rockville Center) scored in the first half and forward Chelsey Feldman (Lynbrook/Hewlett) scored her 15th of the season with less than two minutes remaining in the game. She also registered an assist on Stouffer's goal. Her three goals in Ithaca's two playoff games lead the Bombers.

Seniors with trophy


Junior midfielder Amy Scheffer (Schalmont/Schenectady) was named tournament MVP for her efforts. She registered three assists in the win against Nazareth, giving her seven on the season to lead the Bombers. She scored two goals against Stevens in the semifinal, giving her seven total points in the two tournament games. She now has 31 on the season.

Sophomore goalie Alyssa Sotomayor (East Brunswick/East Brunswick, N.J.) made three saves in the win and earned her eighth shutout of the season.

The Bombers outscored their opponents 9-0 in their two tournament games and have scored 62 goals on the season – more than any other team in Ithaca history.

The NCAA will announce the playoff bracket Monday afternoon.
