ITHACA, N.Y. -- Sophomore Adam Brown (Greece Athena/Rochester) and junior Shane Wolf (Lansing/Freeville) each pitched complete games to lead the Bombers over St. John Fisher, 8-1 and 3-0. The Bombers improve to 9-5 and 3-1 in the Empire 8, while St. John Fisher drops to 7-5 and 1-3 in the conference.
In the first game, senior outfielder Jeremy Peters (Thomas R. Proctor/Utica), led the Bombers by going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run, hit the Bombers' first tripled of the season. In the first inning, Peters, a left-handed batter, drove a line drive down the right field line and to safely reach third base. He scored the first run of the game when junior catcher Rob Raux (Ilion/Frankport) reached first on a throwing error. Raux went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and one run. He drove in sophomore second baseman Kurt Bednarcyk (Rochester/Fairport) in the third. Bednarcyk stole three bases in the game.
In the second, junior shortstop Josh Smith (Pulaski/Pulaski) hit his fourth double of the season and third in two days. Junior outfielder Eric Ferguson (Columbia/East Greenbush) scored on the play. Smith, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI, scored when senior first baseman Jason Friedman (Whitney Young/Chicago, Ill.) his a sacrifice fly to center field.
The Bombers added three runs in the third and two in the sixth to help Brown improve to 2-2. Brown struck out two batters and allowed four hits in his second complete game of his career.
Game two started with Wolf retiring seven straight batters and not allowing a hit until the fourth inning. Wolf struck out eight batters and allowed only two hits in his first-career complete-game shutout.
Raux, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, scored the game's first run when Ferguson singled in the fourth. Raux also scored in the sixth on a sacrifice bunt by Ferguson. Senior outfielder Eric Maya (Rome Free Academy/Rome) scored in the fifth on a sacrifice fly to left field by junior second baseman Todd Czerno (Columbia/Brainard).
The Bombers put their three-game winning streak on the line when they travel to third-ranked Cortland Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. The Red Dragons are coming off a sweep at the hands of Brockport -- their first doubleheader loss to a conference opponent in 20 years.
