Women's Swimming & Diving Wins First Meet of the Season

All-American sophomore Lauren Botterbusch won two events in today's match.
ITHACA, N.Y. -- The women’s swimming & diving team defeated Rensselaer in their first match of the season 139-103. Sophomore Lauren Botterbusch (Dallastown/York, Penn.) was first in the 200-yard I.M., posting a time of 2:19.85, and the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.75. Classmate Cathleen Barnes (Bradford/Bradford, Penn.) placed first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:18.51 followed by teammate senior Kristy Gifford (Chesire/Chesire, Conn.) with a second-place time of 11:19.39.
 
In the 200-yard freestyle senior Nikki Gundersen (Hollis-Brookline/Brookline) had first place finish with a time of 2:01.27 and had a second place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with 55.53. Classmate Elissa Buzard (Perry Central/Perry) recorded a win with a score 184.73 in the one-meter dive and placed third in the three-meter dive with a score of 161.70. Junior Kelly Turpin (Mounds Park Academy/Saint Paul, Minn.) placed first in the 100-yard backstroke, recording a time of 1:03.43.
 
Freshman Shannon Archer (Niskayuna/Scotia) and senior Kristy Gifford (Chesire/Chesire, Conn.) placed first and third in the 500-yard freestyle. Archer posted a time of 5:26.33 and Gifford finished with a time of 5:35.48.
 
Junior Kara Senecal (Drury/North Adams, Mass.) finished second in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.61. Juniors Kelsey Gliesing (Joel Barow/Redding, Conn.) and Kim Wheeler (Southern Cayuga Central/Genoa) placed second and third in the 100-yard butterfly with times of 1:05.96 and 1:06.54, respectively.
 
Junior Gabby Faiella (Our Lady of Mercy Academy/North Bellmore) placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke with 1:13.25. Classmate Kristin Schwartz (Concord-Carlisle Regional/Concord, Mass.) placed third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.71.
 
Ithaca placed first and third in the 200-yard medley relay with times of 1:55.44 and 1:59.12, respectively. In the 200-yard freestyle relay the Bombers placed first posting a time of 1:46.49 and placed second with 1:46.60.
 
The Bombers return to action against Cortland on Saturday, November 4 at 1 p.m.
