AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Ithaca College baseball team improved to 7-4 on the season with a 4-1 upset victory over No. 3 Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Thursday, March 16 at Lake Myrtle Park. The Bombers have two games remaining in Florida before returning to New York.
Kyle Lambert was the star of the game as he scattered three hits over 8.0 innings and struck out 11 batters to just two walks issued. Lambert is now 2-0 on the season and has struck out 35 hitters in 25.0 innings pitched over four starts.
Matt Chase closed out the ninth and allowed one run on two hits.
It was a scoreless contest through 2 1/2 innings but the Bombers scored once over their next three at bats to build a 3-0 lead heading to the sixth inning.
In the bottom of the third,
Ethan Rothstein scored after
Riley Brawdy was caught in a run down following a base hit up the middle. IC's lead grew to 2-0 in the fourth as
Ethan Daddabbo ripped an RBI single and
Connor Pedersen came home to score.
A double play off the bat of
Garrett Callaghan in the fifth extended Ithaca's lead to 3-0 and then the Bombers plated another in the seventh on another Brawdy base hit and Rothstein once again came home.
Stevens Point scored on a fielder's choice in the ninth.
Brawdy went 3-for-4 to lead IC's 10-hit performance, while Pedersen was 2-for-3.
The Bombers play Wheaton (Mass.) tomorrow at 3 p.m. and conclude their spring trip on Saturday morning against No. 11 Rowan.
