AUBURNDALE, FL – The Ithaca College baseball team dropped its Tuesday afternoon game to University of Massachusetts Boston by a score of 9–4. The Bombers trailed 6–4 after eight innings, but a three-run ninth for the Beacons put the game out of reach.
The Beacons got on the scoreboard quickly, earning back-to-back singles from its first two batters. Another single just two batters later cashed in both runs for a 2–0 lead.
Connor Pederson led off the bottom of the second with a single, advancing to second base on a balk.
Ethan Rothstein roped a single to centerfield and the Bombers were back within one. The Bombers tied things at 2–2 in the third on a double from
Louis Fabbo that scored
Riley Brawdy.
The Beacons responded with a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings. A double for the Beacons reclaimed the lead in the fourth and a single in the fifth brought home another for a 4–2 lead. The lead expanded to 6–2 in the seventh and eighth inning from a homerun by Drew Metzdorf and an RBI double by Chris Ducko.
The Bombers got two runs back in the bottom of the eighth to cut the lead to 6–4.
Matt Fabian led off with a single and Pederson followed suit with another in the next at-bat. Rothstein earned his second RBI of the day with a single to right field, scoring Fabian. Pederson scored on the next at-bat from a double steal.
The Beacons pulled away in the ninth with a big rally. A one-out double scored two runs for an 8–4 advantage and a two-out single brought home the beacons' ninth run.
The Bombers move to 5–4 on the season and are now 1–2 on its Spring Break trip to Auburndale, Florida. The Bombers return to action with a 5:15 p.m. game against Roger Williams University.
