AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Ithaca College baseball team improved to 6-4 on the season with a 20-4 blowout victory over Roger Williams on March 15 at Lake Myrtle Park. IC is now 2-2 during its Spring Break trip to Florida.
Both teams earned a run in the first inning for a 1–1 score. The Bombers got on the board first with
Garrett Callaghan driving home
Louis Fabbo on a double. The Hawks responded with a single in the bottom of the inning to bring the tying run home.
Callaghan was at it again, singling with the bases loaded in the top of the third to bring
Ethan Rothstein home to regain the lead. The Hawks answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to take its first lead of the day at 3–2.
IC answered with nine runs in the top of the fourth to take an 11-3 advantage.
In that fourth,
Ryan Laubscher started the rally with a run-scoring double to plate
Gil Merod and then
Ethan Rothstein drove home Laubscher with the bases loaded to give the Bombers a 4-3 lead. Shortly after,
Riley Brawdy and Fabbo connected on RBI singles to extend the difference to 6-3, and two more runs score on an error off the bat of Callaghan. A bases loaded walk to
Connor Pedersen continued the inning, which was followed by an RBI single from Merod and a sacrifice fly by Laubscher.
The lead grew to 19-3 after the top of the seventh as the Bombers scored twice in the fifth, five times in the sixth and twice more in the seventh.
Both runs in the fifth scored on an error, while Rothstein drove home two in the sixth on a base hit and Fabbo brought home another with a base hit. Callaghan then plated a pair with a double to close out the frame. Pedersen and
Ben Landis notched RBIs in the seventh.
Zane Grimes earned the win in 4.0 innings pitched with seven strikeouts.
Bo Nicholson tossed 2.0 innings in relief, while
Reed Bailey finished off the game in the seventh.
The Bombers produced 24 hits in the win as Fabbo went 4-for-4 and Laubscher was 4-for-5. Callaghan drove in five runs on three hits, while Brawdy, Rothstein, Merod and Daddabbo all had two hits.
IC takes on No. 3 Wisconsin-Stevens Points tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.
