No. 23 Ithaca Volleyball Downs Vassar in Three

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -The No. 23 ranked Ithaca Bombers had an impressive 3-0 sweep over the Brewers from Vassar in another Liberty League matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Bombers improved to 19-4 overall, 7-0 in the Liberty League, and a perfect 8-0 on the road.

VS. VASSAR (25-9, 25-15, 25-16)

The Bombers came out swinging in the first set with high energy and great momentum. Kills from Faith Sabatier and Jamie Koopman allowed for the Bombers to gain an early lead over the Brewers (6-2), forcing them to call a timeout. After the timeout Ithaca continued to build their lead with kills from Jamie Koopman and Naomi Clauhs, along with an ace from Julia Costa (12-3). Further kills from the front court, and an ace from Wesley Slavin was too much for the Brewers, causing them to take another timeout. Two more aces from the Bombers, courtesy of Ellie Benedict, and kills from Naomi Clauhs, Ella Graper, and Gabriela Gonzalez-Abreu kept Ithaca with a solid lead. The set ended with a score of 25-9 (Ithaca).

The second set was a bit more competitive between the two teams, but overall, the Bombers were overwhelming for the Brewers. The set started off with kills from Ella Graper and Jamie Koopman, giving them an early 6-3 lead. Three consecutive kills for the Bombers furthered the lead to 9-3. The Bombers kept a consistent lead until the score was 18-10. Vassar scored three-straight points, but could not capitalize off of this momentum. Ithaca furthered their lead with kills from Jamie Koopman and Naomi Clauhs. The set ended with an Ella Graper kill (25-15).

The third set started off with kills from Faith Sabatier and Gabriela Gonzalez-Abreu. Vassar responded with a few points to make the score 6-5, still in favor of Ithaca. Ella Graper had the hot hand for the Bombers, with four kills to further the lead (15-7). Three kills from Faith Sabatier, Gabriela Gonzalez-Abreu, and Jamie Koopman furthered the lead to 19-8, causing Vassar to take a timeout. The Brewers responded well out of the break in action, with four consecutive points, which caused Ithaca to then take a timeout to regroup. From there, the Bombers took over, with kills from Gonzalez-Abreu and Jamie Koopman. An ace from Peyton Miller furthered the lead, and a Jamie Koopman kill ended the set (25-16).

Game leaders were Jamie Koopman with 14 kills, Ellie Benedict with two aces, and Wesley Slavin finished with a double-double with 35 assists and 11 digs.

REACTION FROM HEAD COACH JOHAN DULFER
"I am really impressed with the composure we showed especially at the start of the match - and how well we executed from the start," Dulfer said. " We never let Vassar be Vassar today and that's a huge compliment to the team."

The Bombers will return to action on Friday, October 27 when they host Clarkson University in their final Liberty League matchup at 7 p.m.
