Ithaca continued to work its magic in the final dual of the quad-meet Saturday by recording its second shutout of the season, this time against Oneonta. It's been decades since the Bombers blanked more than one opponent in a year, as the grapplers looked crisp in every single weight class.
Â
The first match set the tone for the entire dual meet with Griffin sticking Tyler Skala midway through the first period. As previously mentioned, Hernandez had an impressive outing on the day and solidified himself even more with a gritty 2-0 win over Anthony Romero.
Â
Jones was the victor at 141 pounds as he dominated Oneonta's Michael Blando on top and went to work for the second period pin. Bomber senior
Colin Murphy had one of the better performances of his 2021-22 campaign as he coasted to a 10-0 major decision over Nic Vandenburg by owning the match on his feet.
Â
It was quite the homecoming for Tony Giovagnoli as the Oneonta, NY native dazzled in his 157-pound match against Anderson Klosner. The junior racked up a handful of takedowns and got a big turn early on to take a 12-2 major decision.
Â
Gray had perhaps the match of the day for IC as he squared off against nationally ranked Tyler Brazinski at 165. It was an all-out chess match between the two, but Gray's three takedowns and late ride out appeared to be the difference as he pulled off a thrilling 9-5 decision.
Â
IC ran the table the rest of the way as
Adrian Rosario-Beato, Chukwuezi,
Jeremy Mazzella, and Rubio all tallied hard-fought wins to clinch the shutout.
Â
Ithaca College will look to stay on track next Friday, February 11 when the team hosts Wilkes University in Ben Light Gymnasium. First whistle is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
