No. 5 Gymnastics Takes Second in Annual Harriett Marranca Memorial Invitational

 The Ithaca College gymnastics team took second place (185.125) to No.1 SUNY Brockport (191.150) Sunday afternoon in the annual Harriett Marranca Memorial Invitational. The Bombers finished ahead of No.11 SUNY Cortland by 5.025 points. Ithaca took second place to Brockport in all four events, losing on the floor exercise to the Golden Eagles by just a tenth of a point.

Reigning National Collegiate Gymnastics Association's (NCGA) Gymnast of the Week Skye Cohen took second in the invite's All Around competition with a 35.175, falling to Cortland's Delaney Brown by 0.475 points. Last week, Cohen set a Division III season record for the All-Around with a 37.900 at Cornell's Big Red Invitational.  

Senior Amelia Bailey notched the highest score on any event at the meet for the Bombers, recording a 9.750 on the balance beam for third place. Her performance this afternoon nearly equaled her personal best of a 9.800 in the event set at last weekend's invitational.

First-year specialist Jillian Freyman also highlighted the individual events for the Bombers, recording highest team score on floor with a 9.725 for three-way tie at third place. The Maryland native also earned the second highest score on beam for the team with a 9.725 and on vault at 9.500. 

Ithaca's first rotation on vault earned the team a 47.300. Five Bombers finished in the top five overall in the event while Brockport's Sydney Schumaker grabbed first place with a 9.700.

Cohen took the top score of the event for IC with a 9.525 in a tie for fifth place. Freyman's 9.500 earned her seventh place overall. 

Meghan Bell (9.450) and Cassidy Gallivan (9.450) tied for eighth place on vault for the Bombers. Junior Nya Pauldon tied for tenth with Cortland States' Brown at 9.375. First-year Dallas Rachal (9.100) also competed in the event for IC.

The Bombers second rotation took the team to the uneven bars where they recorded a 42.050 team score, earning them second place in the event overall. Junior Cameryn Nichols notched the top spot in the event for Ithaca with an 8.650, grabbing ninth place overall. 

First-year Nicole Lonski followed behind Nichols with an 8.625, grabbing tenth place. Fellow first-year Marlena Bailey (8.500), Cohen (8.200), senior Julia O'Sullivan (8.075) and junior Zoe Kyriakopoulos (8.000) also competed in the event for IC. 

Ithaca's third rotation on the balance beam earned the team a 47.675 in the event, taking second place overall. Four Bombers recorded top ten finishes in the event while the Golden Eagles' Schumaker and Natalie Galioto tied for first with a 9.800. 

Freyman's 9.725 on beam followed close behind A. Bailey's top performance, earning the first-year fourth place overall. Junior Ai-Zhen Tung grabbed sixth place with a 9.700 while teammate Kyriakopoulos earned eighth place at 9.600. 

O'Sullivan (8.900) and Cohen (7.825) also competed on the balance beam for IC. 

Ithaca's final rotation on the floor exercise earned the Bombers a 48.100 team score in the event, narrowly taking second place in the event overall. Four gymnasts notched top ten finishes in the event while Brockport's Alexis Castellaneta took first place with a 9.825. 

After Freyman's 9.725 second place finish, teammate Amelia Bailey followed in fifth place overall with a 9.700. First-year Caitlin Pellegrino (9.650) and Cohen (9.625) went back to back on floor, earning seventh and eighth place respectively. 

Next up, the Bombers will take on the Red Dragons again in Cortland, N.Y. next Sunday, Feb. 27 for the two team's sixth match-up this season. Ithaca leads this year's series against SUNY Cortland 5-0. Start time is slated for 1 p.m.
