The Ithaca College softball team swept Hartwick College in its doubleheader April 21, winning the first game by a score of 8-0 and the second game by a score of 13-3. With these two wins, the Bombers now have a conference record of 8-2.

Game 1 | Ithaca 8, Hartwick 0
IC led 3-0 after the second inning. The Bombers scored three more runs in the fourth inning and two more in the sixth to secure the victory without playing a seventh inning.

Freshman Zahida Sherman threw her team-leading sixth shutout, as she only allowed three hits throughout the contest. She has not allowed an earned run in her last 27 innings. Sophomore Leigh Bonkowski went 1-for-3 with three RBI and junior Sara Coddington went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Game 2 | Ithaca 13, Hartwick 3
Hartwick took an early lead as they scored one run in the top of the first, but the Bombers quickly responded with four runs of their own to finish the first inning. In the bottom of the second, IC put up another four runs, and then capitalized on its offensive success as the team scored five more runs in the bottom of the third. Hartwick started their attempted comeback in the top of the fifth inning but could only score two runs.

The Bombers had 15 hits on the day, and Hannah Shalett and Bonkowski each hit home runs. Bonkowski went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Shalett went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Junior Abbey Pelot earned her ninth victory of the season and is now 9-5.

With the two wins, the Bombers can clinch the Empire 8 regular season title and host the conference tournament if RIT and St. John Fisher split their doubleheader. Ithaca's next doubleheader will be against SUNY Geneseo at 1 p.m. April 24 at Kostrinsky Field
