ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's track & field team had an impressive start to its 2019-20 season at the Cornell Greg Page Relays as senior
Parley Hannan was named the MVP of the meet and freshman
Tia Jones set a new school record in the 60-meter dash during her preliminary and finals races.
Hannan, fresh off her NCAA Division III cross country national championship, dominated the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:56.83, which was more than two minutes faster than the next closest runner, who finished in 19:15.53.
In the 60 prelim, Jones qualified with a seventh place finish in a time of 7.74 seconds to surpass the previous school record of 7.77 seconds set by Marcia McCord in 2010. In the final, Jones bested that time with a performance of 7.63 seconds to finish third overall ahead of three Division I runners.
In the 3,000-meter run, senior
Sarah Rudge took third in 11:00.50, while sophomore
Zoe Hadley finished in fifth at 11:40.89. Freshmen
Meghana Caron and
Katelyn Sarkovics followed in sixth and seventh with times of 11:44.80 and 11:47.52.
IC's 4x800-meter relay of freshmen
Gianna Nigro,
Michaela Bleakley,
Julia DiGeronimo and
Sophia Roy were runners-up in 11:14.65. Ithaca's distance medley relay squad of sophomores
Paloma De Monte and
Lauren Lobdell, along with freshman
Julia Tomanovich and senior
Maggie Nickerson were also second place finishers in 12:56.10.
The DMR 'C' group of Roy, Bleakley, Rose and senior
Lindsay Scott were fourth place entries in 13:01.25, while the 'B' relay of DiGeronimo, Nigro and freshmen
Madison Martinez and
Ava Fowler placed seventh in 13:56.65.
Sophomore
Kelly Farrell clocked a time of 19:37.49 in the 5K to place third overall, while freshman
Meredith Garrity trailed in fourth at 19:44.06. Senior
Maria Matkoski also ran in the 5K and placed seventh in 19:51.33.
Ithaca's 4x400-meter relay team of Jones, senior
Jessica Competiello and sophomores
Kristina Hoefler and
Katelyn Hutchison clocked a time of 4:06.18 to finish third overall. The 'B' squad of junior
Sarah Lachenmayr, freshman Katherine Downey and Scott and Nickerson were sixth in 4:17.04. IC's 'C' group of De Monte, Lobdell, Tomanovich and Rose came in eighth at 4:23.44.
In the 60-meter hurdles, sophomores
Logan Bruce and
Lauren Rullo, along with freshman
Samara Herzog all qualified for the final. Herzog posted the best finish in the final with a sixth place showing in 9.47 seconds, while Bruce was seventh in 9.57 and Rullo took eighth with a time of 9.63.
In the field events, Bruce was a third place finisher in the high jump at 1.60 meters (5 feet, 3 inches), while senior
Estelle Yedynak came in fifth with a clearance of 1.55 meters (5' 1"). Competiello also placed sixth at 1.50 meters (4' 11").
Three Bombers finished within the top seven in the pole vault. Sophomore
Meghan Matheny cleared 3.50 meters (11' 5.75") to finish second overall, while junior
Juliann Terry was fourth at the same height. Junior
Emily Carey posted a mark of 3.35 meters (10' 11.75") to finish in seventh.
Senior
Kendall Wellauer was a runner-up in the weight throw with a distance of 15.38 meters (50' 5.5") and freshman
Kalena Yearwood posted a top mark of 13.92 meters (45' 8") to come in sixth.
Wellauer took fourth in the shot put at 11.88 meters (38' 11.75"), while freshman
Moriah Byrd was seventh at 10.98 meters (36' .25") and junior
Liana Shames came in eighth with a mark of 10.65 meters (34' 11.25").
The Bombers are off until January 10 when they head to Staten Island for the Spartan Regional at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
