CORNELL RESULTS
The Ithaca College women's track and field competed in two high-level meets this weekend at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic and the Cornell Big Red Invitational. The squad took home personal and season bests while going head-to-head with competition across all three Divisions.
The women's distance team kicked off the weekend of racing Saturday at Bucknell. Seniors
Kayleigh Milligan and
Joy Petersen ran in the unseeded 1500 and 800 meter runs. Milligan ran 4:46 in the 1500, a seven second personal best before doubling back and running a 2:18 in the 800, her best outdoor performance of her collegiate career. Petersen ran a season best of 4:55.74 in the 1500 and a 2:27 in the 800. First-year
Violet Sloan also competed in the 800, running a season best of 2:21.72, narrowly missing her best time from the indoor season by less than a tenth of a second.
Later in the day, sophomore
Hannah Pawlowski clocked a huge personal best in the unseeded 5000 meters. Pawlowski ran a 17:49.25, finishing fourth in heat one where she ran an aggressive race, running the majority of the race towards the front of the main pack. Later on in the evening, junior
Lola Gitlin wrapped up the day for the Bombers, running a 36:11.70 in her 10000 meter debut, qualifying for both the Liberty League and the All-Atlantic Regional Track and Field Championships with ease. Gitlin ran even splits and moved up nine places in the second half of the race to place 17th.
On Sunday, the women ran their 4x100 meter relay of sophomores
Marykate Rudnicki and
Aynisha McQuillar, junior
Ava Butler and senior
Rachel Larson who ran a time of 48.81 seconds for second place in their heat and seventh overall. Later in the day, Larson ran a 14.15 in the 100 meter hurdles, beating many Division I athletes en route to a second place finish.
Back in Ithaca, the Bombers had three athletes competing in the Heptathlon across both Saturday and Sunday. They were led by the defending conference champion in the event, sophomore
Cameron Ting who finished third with 3953 points, highlighted by a personal best in the 100 meter hurdles of 15.49 seconds. Senior
Cecelia LaBonte finished fourth in 3719 points and first-year
Isabel Rossbach finished fifth in 3621 points, including a seven second personal best in the 800 meters, running a 2:34.58.
The women saw two season bests in the 1500 meter run. Senior
Jessica Goode ran a 14 second season best, finishing third in the second heat with a 4:56.32, beating six of the eight Division I runners in her heat. Sophomore
Nicole Tellechea finished seventh in the heat, with a five second season best of 5:03.10.
In the sprints, the Bombers saw season bests from junior
Julia Ryba in the 400, running 61.96 for 12th place and a personal best from sophomore
Harper O'Neill of 63.72. In the 200 meter run, first-years
Valentina Wallin and
Meredith Colla ran 26.31 and 27.01 respectfully.
In the field events, the Bombers continued to compete well amongst the tough competition. Senior
Lily Seyfert threw 13.68 meters for second place in the invitational shot put, being the only Division III athlete in the top five. Seyfert also threw 35.24 meters for second place in javelin, where she was joined by junior
Celia Ryan in the top five, who threw 31.75 meters for fourth. Ryan was also the Bombers top finisher in the high jump where she cleared 1.58 meters for seventh place, the highest amongst Division III athletes in the competition.
In the discus throw, junior
Charlotte Powell placed third throwing 36.13 meters. In the pole vault
Talia Hutchinson, Indoor First-Team All-American was the top Division III finisher, jumping 3.81 meters for a season best and a fifth place finish. She was followed by senior
Erin Eastwood who jumped 3.66 meters for sixth.
The Bombers will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Moravian University to compete in the two-day Moravian Coach P. Invitational, starting on Friday, Apr. 17th at 1 p.m.
