No. 14 Wrestling Goes 1-2 at Journeymen Northeast Duals

TROY, N.Y. – The 14th-ranked Ithaca College wrestling team hit the road for the first time this season on Saturday when it traveled to the Capital Region to compete in the annually competitive Journeymen Northeast Duals. It was a bit of a rocky road for the Bombers in their first road trip of the season, as IC finished the day with a 1-2 record, besting Castleton, but falling to TCNJ and the top-ranked NCAA Division II program in Pitt-Johnstown.

Highlighting the day were several strong performances by IC grapplers. The headliner was IC's 174-pound transfer Jordan Wallace who went 3-0 on the day, which included two victories over nationally-ranked foes. He defeated the fourth-ranked grappler at the NCAA Division II level in Brock Biddle during the opening match of the day, while he bested TCNJ's unanimous third-ranked wrestler at the Division III level in Dan Kilroy in a 6-2 decision. Wallace figures to make his entrance into the rankings during the next release.

Nationally-ranked Ben Brisman (3rd NWCA | 5th d3wrestle.com) also completed a 2-0 day on Saturday, earning victories in both of his appearances against Pitt-Johnstown and Castleton. Sophomore Eze Chukwuezi posted a 2-1 record on the day with his lone defeat coming to Pitt-Johnstown's third-ranked 184-pounder Connor Craig. He rebounded for a win over Castleton's Jake Hoffman in a rematch from last weekend's Ithaca Invitational final, while he also secured a win over TCNJ's Corbitt. Ithaca's senior heavyweight Dalton Elias also went 2-1 on the day with victories against both of his Division III foes from Castleton and TCNJ.

First-year Matthew Beyer also posted an encouraging result on Saturday. Although he suffered a pair of defeats he sandwiched a win over the nation's 10th-ranked 149-pounder in Castleton's Max Tempel in a razor-thin 3-2 decision. IC rookie Travis Jones also showed well on the day in posting a 1-1 record. He registered a dominant tech fall in his bout against Castleton, while he battled closely against TCNJ's nationally-ranked 133-pounder in Jake Giordano (2nd NWCA | 3rd d3wrestle.com) coming up just short in a 7-5 decision.

Also posting victories on the day were: Logan Ninos and Sam Schneider (8th NWCA). Ninos finished the day with a 1-2 record in three close bouts against challenging competition. Schneider recorded his first pin of the year in the Castleton dual, before coming up just short in a high-scoring 157-pound bout against TCNJ's Sacco in a 10-7 decision.
