BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The fourth-ranked Ithaca College gymnastics team hit the road for the second straight weekend on Sunday afternoon, traveling to Rochester for a dual meet at No. 2 Brockport. Facing the Golden Eagles for the second time over the past three weeks, the Bombers hung toe-to-toe with the NCGA East's top-ranked team, ultimately coming up just short in a thrilling dual 188.925-to-188.575.
Â
For Ithaca, it marked the fourth consecutive week in which the Bombers have improved their team score, continuing an upward trajectory that portends great things for the weeks ahead. The Bombers set new season-high scores in both vault and uneven bars, while they continued to notch strong performances in balance beam and floor exercise, improving over half a point on last week's score from the Temple Quad Meet.
Â
Highlighting IC's performance on the day were five gymnasts who set personal records. Junior
Carolyn Nichols and senior
Kaylee Pacunas each marked new highs in vault, while freshmen
Savannah Gigandet and
Courtney Christoforo continued to refine their routines on excellent uneven bars routines. Another rookie rounded out the personal bests, as
Katie Holcomb smashed her career best on balance beam.
Â
Ithaca began the day on bars, a tough rotation to begin the day's action. Despite the challenge, IC rose to the occasion, smashing its team best with a 46.300 team score for the rotation. It was a freshman that paced the way for Ithaca, as Christoforo led all gymnasts on the day with a 9.500 to finish in first-place overall for the meet. The score beat her previous best by .225, while it was the second-best score on bars for an IC gymnast this season.
Â
Another Bomber took second in the event, as senior
Danielle Maffuid continued to round into prime form with a 9.475 to finish in second-place. Freshman
Savannah Gigandet also turned in a personal best on the rotation, scoring a 9.375 that was good for sixth place. Junior
Haley Lyons also cracked 9.000, scoring a 9.025 that was good for ninth place. Sophomores
Elyse Ryden and
Baylie Trammell rounded out the group with 8.925 and 8.550 to come in 10
th and 11
th-place, respectively.
Â
The squads switched sides for the second rotation. It was a season-best effort for Ithaca in the vault, as the team topped 47.000 for the first time this season with a 47.550. Two personal bests also occurred in this rotation, as Nichols and Pacunas led the way. Nichols topped her previous best with a 9.750 that was good for second overall at the competition. Pacunas was right behind her, coming in third with a 9.600 score.
Â
Rounding out IC's scoring group was the trio of senior
Melissa Hollrigl, junior
Victoria Gery and sophomore
Baylie Trammell. Each gymnast posted 9.400 scores that were tied for ninth. Freshman
Marin Sheridan also made her second appearance in the lineup, scoring an 8.850 in a 12
th-place finish.
Â
IC has been most consistent this season on balance beam and that trend continued on Sunday. IC had three of the Top-4 overall scores in the event on the day, led by freshman
Katie Holcomb. The rookie shattered her previous career best by .200, registering a 9.700 that was good for second overall on the day. Sophomore
Paige Landes continued her impressive early-season form, posting a 9.675 in a third-place showing. In fourth, sophomore
Emily Szembrot finished just off her personal best with a 9.650.

Hannah Donnelly (9
th, 9.275), and senior
Kendra Balcerak (10

Â
What proved to be the difference on the day was floor exercise, as the Golden Eagles were able to nudge just enough separation to take home the dual-meet victory. Brockport posted the Top-4 best scores on the afternoon.
Â

Victoria Gery, who scored a 9.575 in a fifth-place finish. Senior
Melissa Hollrigl finished in seventh with a 9.425, while sophomore
