CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Ithaca College gymnastics team made the short trek up Route 13 for the second time over the past two weeks on Saturday afternoon when it traveled to Cortland for a dual-meet against the Red Dragons. The meet hosts came out on top for the second time this season, outscoring the Bombers 188.750-to-185.975. The loss dropped IC to 0-4 in dual meets this season.

The uneven bars proved to be the difference on the day. While IC hung neck-and-neck with the Red Dragons through three rotations, SUNY Cortland outscored the Bombers by 1.375 points in the bars, which made up for nearly half the ultimate margin of victory.

Ithaca performed best on the floor exercise on Saturday, scoring a 47.000. Freshman Emily Szembrot led the way for IC with a third-place finish, marking a score of 9.575. Sophomore Victoria Gery finished right behind  the rookie with a fourth-place effort of 9.550. Sophomore Amy Thomas and freshman Paige Landes added seventh- and eighth-place finishes with scores of 9.400 and 9.300, respectively.

Ithaca also had strong effort on the vault, finishing just shy of 47 with a 46.925. Junior Kaylee Pacunas was the best IC finisher with a third-place score of 9.500. Gery continued her strong afternoon with another fourth-place score of 9.475. Freshman Baylie Trammell and Landes finished sixth- and seventh-respectively with scores of 9.350 and 9.325.

The Bombers lone first-place finisher of the day came in the balance beam, as junior Kendra Balcerak posted her best routine of the season. She carded a 9.700, just 0.075 below her previous career best, which she set just two weeks ago at the Beauty and the Beast Meet, also hosted at SUNY Cortland.

Landes finished in a tie for second with a 9.550, while junior Hannah Donnelly continued her excellent year on the beam with a 9.375. Junior Danielle Maffuid posted IC's best routine on the bars, scoring a 9.450 to finish in a tie for second.

Ithaca returns to action on Sunday, March 12, when it travels to Philadelphia, Pa., for the Temple University Invitational.
