No. 4 Wrestling, Gymnastics Head to Cortland for Beauty and the Beast Meet on Wednesday

ITHACA, N.Y. – The fourth-ranked Ithaca College wrestling team and the IC gymnastics team will both make the short trip up Route 13 on Wednesday to compete against long-time rival SUNY Cortland in a joint meet dubbed the "Beauty and the Beast" Meet. Action is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. with both events running simultaneously at Corey Gymnasium.

SUNY Cortland first hosted "Beauty and the Beast" event two seasons ago. The meet format combining wrestling and gymnastics has also gained further notoriety in recent years with several NCAA Division I institutions, such as: Boise State, Brown, Iowa State and Maryland have hosted similar events.

The ticket costs for those looking to attend the event are $4 for adults and $3 for senior citizens (65+) and Ithaca College students (with valid ID). All children 12-and-under will gain free admittance, as well as SUNY Cortland students, faculty and staff (with valid ID).

The IC wrestlers enter the meet with an 11-2 record in dual meets on the season. Ithaca carries seven-match winning streak into the clash with the Red Dragons, which will be the team's sixth dual against a nationally-ranked foe this year. SUNY Cortland was tabbed 15th in the latest poll released by the NWCA.

The Bombers are coming off a thrilling 34-12 comeback victory over 24th-ranked Wilkes University this past Friday, closing out the match with five straight victories, which included falls in the final three bouts. Highlighting the action was Jimmy Kaishian (8th d3wrestle.com) who defeated the nation's second-ranked 125-pounder in Guesseppe Rea.

The IC gymnastics team also enters the mid-week meet with a full head of steam after posting a new season-high team score in a strong performance this past weekend at the Big Red Invitational. IC shattered its previous top mark by 4.200 points, posting the program's highest team score dating back to the 2015 season.

The Ithaca gymnasts set a new program record for team score on the vault with a cumulative total of 47.850. Headlining the event was sophomore Carolyn Nichols, who set a new personal career best with a 9.725 to finish in a tie for fourth overall. She is the only gymnast at the NCAA Division III level to perform her unique vault in competition this season.

The wrestling meet concludes the dual-meet schedule for the Bombers, as they shift their attention to the NCAA Northeast Regionals, hosted by Roger Williams, on Saturday, February 25, and Sunday, February 26. The gymnastics team will go from Cortland to Springfield, Mass., this coming Sunday, February 19, for a dual-meet beginning at 1:00 p.m.
