Men's Basketball Struggles in Road Loss at St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. – Junior guard Marc Chasin scored a team-high 17 points as the Ithaca College men's basketball team traveled to Canton and fell to St. Lawrence, 104-70, in a non-conference meeting inside Burkman Gymnasium on Friday evening.  The loss evened Ithaca's record at 3-3 while the Saints improved to 5-1 overall.

The Bombers struggled to get anything going early on as the Saints strung together two scoring runs including eight unanswered to build a 19-10 lead with nearly eight minutes gone by.

St. Lawrence continued to set the tempo as the first half wore on and extended its lead to double-digits after scoring 12 of the game's next 14 points to make it 25-12.  Matt Flood temporarily halted the momentum with a corner 3-pointer to bring Ithaca to within 10 points, but the Saints continued to roll and scored seven unanswered points as part of a 14-4 run to hold a 39-19 edge with 5:22 left to go before the break.

The Bombers would cut the deficit to 15 points on a 3-pointer from Carroll Rich, but that was as close as Ithaca would get in the opening stanza as the Saints closed out the half with six quick points to make it 51-32 at intermission.

In the second half, Ithaca was unable to come up with timely stops as St. Lawrence eventually built a 30-point lead after burying five from distance over the final 20 minutes of action.  Ithaca began to chip away late with a pair of modest 5-0 run, but the hosts closed out the final four minutes of play with 12 unanswered points en route to the 104-70 win.

Chasin was 6-for-13 overall from the floor and added four rebounds and three assists while freshman Gabe Perez-Ronchetta tallied 13 points in 20 minutes.  Rich had a season-high 12 points to go with five assists and a pair of steals and Flood knocked down three from behind the arc for nine points.

The Bombers will return to the friendly confines of Ben Light Gymnasium at 8 p.m. on Tuesday when they host Wells College in a non-conference bout.
