ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's swimming and diving team suffered its first defeat of the 2016-17 season as the Bombers fell to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 201-93, on Saturday inside the A&E Center Aquatics Pavilion.Â
Ithaca had a strong showing in both relays as
Jack Lacy,
Andrew Mikhailichenko,
Adam Zelehowsky and
Aaron Levin posted a second place finish in the 200 medley after touching the wall just .12 seconds behind the winning team with a time of 1:37.56.Â
Ithaca also took third place in the event with
Gregory Markert,
Aidan Hartswick,
Daniel Meyers and
Kellen Scanlan teaming up to complete the race in 1:40.50.
The Bombers would go on to take second in the 400 free relay as Levin, Scanlan,
Connor Schroyer and Zelehowsky posted a time of 3:14.80.Â
Adam Zelehowsky had another strong outing as the Auburn native finished first overall in the 200 free with a winning time of 1:44.70 while Levin claimed the top spot in the 50 free (21.74) before taking second overall in the 100 free at 48.05.
Jake Hewitt picked up four points for Ithaca in the 1000 free with a second place showing in 10:17.34 while
Patrick Daly secured fourth place with a mark of 10:42.36. Hewitt would add another second place finish in the 200 butterfly after touching the wall in 1:59.87 – just .60 of a second behind the winner – before taking third in the 100 fly at 54.87.
In the 200 breaststroke, Mihailichenko was the winner with a time of 2:10.31. The freshman would add two more top-three performances after finishing second in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 200 individual medley.
Markert and
Bradley Keith finished in back-to-back spots in both the 100 and the 200 backstroke after Markert took third place in each (55.88/2:03.16) and Keith fourth overall (56.12/2:07.32).
Ithaca will make its return to the water at 1 p.m. on Saturday when it travels to Cortland for a dual meet against the Red Dragons.   Â
