ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's basketball team cruised to a 75-54 win over visiting Hartwick on Saturday afternoon at Ben Light Gymnasium behind 52 percent shooting from the field and a 41-28 rebounding advantage. Four Bombers scored in double figures and Ithaca maintained its hold on first place in the Empire 8. Ithaca is 13-4 on the season and 8-1 in the league. Hartwick fell to 11-8 overall, 3-5 in the Empire 8.
After the game was tied at 7-7 early on, the Bombers took control with a 21-3 run in the middle stages of the first half and led by double figures the rest of the way. Ithaca made twice as many baskets as Hartwick in the first half (16 to 8 margin) and the Bombers led 41-20 at halftime. Hartwick whittled the lead to 12 points on two occasions in the second half but it was as close as they would come.
Travis Warech led all scorers with 21 points on 7-for-11 shooting, including 3-for-5 from behind the arc.
Eli Maravich and
Sean Rossi had 12 points each.
Tom Sweeney scored 10 points and added six rebounds. Rossi had five assists in the game, and Maravich and
Jordan Healey each had four assists.
Frank Mitchell was Ithaca's leading rebounder with 10, and he added six points.
It was Ithaca's 10th win in its last 11 games. The Bombers host Scranton in a non-league game Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Ben Light Gymnasium.
