SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Ithaca College wrestling team defeated eighth-ranked Coe and fell to top-ranked Wartburg and 30th-ranked Wesleyan at the NWCA Division III National Duals on Saturday. The Bombers are 5-3 in duals this season, and five of Ithaca's eight duals have come against nationally-ranked opponents. Ithaca returns to action next weekend, with a Friday afternoon dual match against Waynesburg and the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference tournament on Saturday. Jules Doliscar was 3-0 on the day for the Bombers and Ricky Gomez was 2-0 in his bouts.

Ithaca 24, Coe 16

A pinfall victory by Cris Ramirez at 1:47 in the heavyweight bout clinched a 24-16 victory for the Ithaca College wrestling team over ninth-ranked Coe in a first-round match at the NWCA National Duals. The Bombers, ranked ninth nationally and seeded ninth in the tournament, defeated No. 8 Coe.

The Bombers held a narrow 18-16 advantage headed into the heavyweight match, where Ramirez went up against Coe's Alex Burkle, ranked third nationally in that weight class. Ramirez got the first-period pin to send Ithaca to a quarterfinal matchup against the nation's top-ranked team, Wartburg. Ramirez is 9-6 on the season with all nine of his wins coming by pin.

Ithaca built a 15-0 lead in the dual with four straight wins to start the dual. Ricky Gomez and Alex Gomez scored decision victories for the Bombers and Dominick Giacolone won by first-period pin at 141. Kevin Collins posted a decision victory at 149 to complete Ithaca's quick start. At 174, Jules Doliscar scored a 3-1 decision win over Ethan Ball. Doliscar is ranked second in his weight class, while Ball is fifth at 174. Two straight wins for Coe wrestlers set up the exciting conclusion.

Wartburg 33, Ithaca 6

Ithaca earned decision victories at 125 pounds and at 174 pounds in matchups of nationally-ranked weight class wrestlers in both positions. At 125, Ricky Gomez, fifth at 125, posted a 3-2 decision win over Gilberto Camacho, the second-ranked wrestler in that weight class. Doliscar, second at 174, bettered Dylan Azinger, the third-ranked guy in that weight class, by a score of 5-4.

The Wartburg lineup featured nationally-ranked wrestlers at nine of 10 positions in the lineup.

Wesleyan 22, Ithaca 17

Each team won five bouts, but Wesleyan had the advantage in bonus points throughout the lineup by posting two pins and a major decision in a 22-17 win over Ithaca in the consolation bracket. The Bombers began with decision victories by Anthony Cabrera at 125 pounds and Alex Gomez at 133. After Wesleyan rallied to tie the team score 6-6, Ithaca's Derek Brenon was a 5-0 decision winner at 157 to put the Bombers back in front. Evan Connors and Jules Doliscar followed with major decision victories to put the Bombers ahead 17-6, but Wesleyan rallied to win the last three bouts and claim the victory.
