Hoboken, N.J. -- The Ithaca field hockey team (4-4, 1-1 Empire 8) rallied in the game's closing minutes but came out on the short end of a 4-3 decision Saturday evening at Stevens (5-3, 3-0 Empire 8). The Bombers trailed 4-2 in the final five minutes of the second half and were awarded two penalty strokes, but converted only the second one.
Ithaca freshman
Katelyn Gualtieri opened the scoring for the Bombers with her second goal of the season, assisted by junior
Lindsay Flanagan in the last minute of the first half to make the score 2-1 at halftime.
The Bombers tied the score in the 47th minute on a goal by senior
Julia Conroy, her team-leading seventh goal of the season, assisted by junior
Andrea Pace.
After Stevens regained a two-goal lead, Ithaca earned a penalty stroke with 4:17 remaining, but the attempt was saved. Another stroke was awarded with 1:20 to play, and Pace scored on that opportunity, her third goal of the year. Both strokes were the result of the Stevens goalkeeper diving to make a save, and then covering the ball when she was on the turf.
Ithaca had 13 penalty corners and took 15 shots in the game. Senior goalkeeper
Kelly Singleton made 11 saves.
Ithaca returns to action Wednesday at Hartwick.
