ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College field hockey team (1-0) powered past visiting Wells (0-1), 6-2, Friday afternoon at Higgins Stadium to open its 2012 campaign.
The Bombers tallied a trio of goals in each half, while holding the Express scoreless in the second stint. Ithaca had six players score in the winning effort.
Junior
Katie Kennedy opened all scoring five minutes into play on an assist from junior
Lindsay Flanagan. The goal came as a result of one of Ithaca's game-high 14 corners.
After Wells knotted action, senior
Julia Conroy put the Bombers ahead for good. Junior
Andrea Pace netted the Bombers' third on a penalty stroke for a 3-1 Ithaca advantage. The Express brought the game to 3-2 with 48 seconds lingering in the first frame.
Sophomore
Natalie Lynch and freshman
Olivia Salindong each went unassisted for the Bombers before
Pace found sophomore
Rachel Weston in the 68th minute to finalize all scoring at 6-2.
Seniors
Kelly Singleton and
Samantha Grassi split time in cage, each making one stop.
Ithaca outshot the Express 28-6.
The Bombers are slated to take on Morrisville Saturday, Sept. 1 at 3 p.m.
