Former Bomber Pitcher Andrew Wall Signs With Washington Nationals and Assigned To Auburn

Auburn, N.Y. – Andrew Wall, a former all-conference pitcher with the Ithaca College baseball team, has become the latest Bomber to join the ranks of professional baseball. Wall has signed with the Auburn Doubledays, the New York Penn League team that serves as the short-season class A affiliate of the Washington Nationals.

Bombers in professional baseball

Wall had been pitching with the Alpine Cowboys of the independent Pacos League. In 27 relief appearances, the left-handed pitcher was 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA, striking out 17 batters in 20 innings.

In his Bomber career, Wall spent two seasons with the varsity pitching staff. He posted a 4-3 record with a 3.42 ERA. A second-team Empire 8 all-star as a senior, Wall fanned 54 hitters in 50 innings (his career average of 9.72 strikeouts per nine innings ranks among the program's 20-best figures).

After graduating, he pitched with the Elmira Pioneers of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League in 2010 and was named the team's top pitcher.

Wall will be the second Bomber in the New York Penn League; Tucker Healy, a May graduate, was drafted by the Oakland Athletics and assigned to the Vermont Lake Monsters. Healy and the Lake Monsters play a three-game series at Auburn's Falcon Park Wednesday, July 25 through Friday, July 27. In addition, David Valesente, son of Bomber head coach George Valesente, is in his first season with the State College Spikes (the Pittsburgh Pirates' NY Penn League affiliate).
