BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team finished up its 2026 regular season with one of the highest scoring games of the year as the Bombers prevailed in a 17-14 slugfest at Brockport on Tuesday afternoon. Ithaca enters the Liberty League Crossover Series with a 20-13 record and travels to RPI this weekend.
Ithaca jumped out to a 4-0 lead after its first two trips to the plate as the Bombers scored a run in the first inning and three more in the second frame. IC's first run came home a double play and then
Jake Alfano made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly.
Matt Curtis followed with a two-run single to plate
Ben Raspanti and
Nate Rodriguez.
Brockport would then tie the game at 4-4 after two runs apiece in the second and third innings, but the Bombers answered with a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to go up by a 7-4 score. An RBI fielder's choice off the bat of
Isaiah Smith gave IC a 5-4 edge in the fourth and RBI base hits from
Sheldon Jay Walker III and
Ethan Fantel in the fifth extended the lead to 7-4.
It was a shootout from there as both teams plated 10 runs each from the bottom of the fifth to the top of the ninth, accounting for the 17-14 final tally.
Raspanti and Alfano picked up RBIs in the sixth, while Walker drove in a pair in that half inning.
Anthony Mestre and Alfano accounted for both RBIs in the seventh on a sacrifice fly and single, while a sac fly from Orlovitz brought in the lone run of the eighth. A wild pitch and passed ball in the ninth brought home
Colin Dunn and Alfano, and Fantel drove home the final run for the Bombers with a single to center that brought in Walker.
The Bombers racked up 22 hits in the win, led by four hits from Walker and three each from Orlovitz, Alfano and
Camden Laney.
Five different pitchers saw action with
Ray Stein earning the start. Stein two runs on three hits in 2.0 innings, while
Trevor Greene picked up the win in 4.0 innings of relief.
Cooper Albert and
Richard Zangara tossed1.2 combined innings and
Luke Zelinko earned his eight save of the season.
IC and RPI begin the Crossover Series at 3 p.m. on Friday with the first pitch on Saturday slated for 12 p.m. An if necessary third game will start at approximately 3 p.m. on Saturday.
