ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team posted an impressive 12-2 victory over Alfred State on Wednesday afternoon at Freeman Field as the game ended after seven innings. Ithaca is now 17-12 on the season.
It was quick top of the first inning for
Ray Stein as he sat down Alfred State in order on just 10 pitches. Ithaca threatened in the bottom half of the first as two runners moved into scoring position after a double from
Lucas Orlovitz, but the inning came to an end on a groundout to keep the game scoreless.
In the bottom of the second, Ithaca loaded the bases before an out was recorded as
Matt Curtis led off with a single,
Nate Rodriguez followed with a walk and
Ethan Daddabbo reached on an error.
Zack Sperger then gave IC a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly.
The Bombers tacked on five more runs in the bottom of the fifth with the help of three Alfred State errors to make it 6-0.
Anthony Mestre singled to start the rally and later scored on the first error of the inning.
Ethan Fantel scored the next run as he reached on a hit by pitch, moved to second on an error and scored on another Pioneers misplay during a base hit from Orlovitz.
Matt Curtis doubled to plate Orolovitz for a 4-0 lead and then a dropped fly ball brought in two more runs.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Bombers put four more runs on the board to build a 10-lead. Fantel delivered an RBI single through the right side and a pinch hit two-run home run from
Merrick Sullivan to extend the lead to 9-0.
Ben Raspanti drove in the 10th run of the contest with a single to left.
Alfred State scored twice in the top of the seventh inning, but Ithaca ended the contest in the bottom half as
Jake Alfano belted a two-run walk-off homer to activate the 10-run rule.
Ray Stein earned the win as he tossed two perfect innings in his start.
