ITHACA, N.Y. – The fifth-ranked Ithaca College wrestling team (14-2) capped off its regular season with a 22-9 victory over #13 Cortland (17-3) Wednesday at Ben Light Gymnasium.
The Bombers never trailed after picking up decision wins in the first five bouts of a dual in which neither team recorded a pinfall. Seniors
Seth Ecker,
Jeremy Stierly and
Matt Mahon each recorded victories in the final home competition of their careers.
The top-ranked
Ecker notched his 101st career win in the 133-pound bout, scoring six points in the third period to pull away for an 8-1 decision. He upped his season mark to 23-4, including 13-1 in duals.
Stierly, who is ranked third in the nation, notched a 4-1 decision at 149 pounds to improve his career record to 84-18. He is now 5-1 on the season, all coming in dual-meet competition.
Mahon pulled out a 2-1 decision in overtime to notch his 88th career win. He got an escape in the first overtime period and then held his opponent down in the second extra period, improving to 23-7 this season, including 12-4 in dual meets.
Derek Brenon pulled out a 4-3 decision in the final seconds of the 157-pound bout against Cortland's fourth-ranked wrestler. With the match tied at 3-3,
Brenon recorded an escape with one second left in the third period for the decisive point.
Brenon, who led the match 3-0 after two periods, is now 56-13 for his career, including 13-4 this season (5-2 in duals).
Junior
Jules Doliscar, the top-ranked 174-pounder, remained perfect in dual meets this season with a 12-3 major decision. The win was his fourth by major decision this season as he improved to 15-0 in duals and 30-3 overall. It was the only bout of the dual in which a wrestler earned bonus points. The nine other bouts were all won by decision.
Freshman
Alex Gomez scored a key three points by pulling out a 2-1 decision against Cortland's eighth-ranked wrester at 141. Trailing 1-0,
Gomez got a takedown in the second period and held on late in the third. He is now 14-8 this season, including 7-4 in duals.
Junior Rick Gomez opened the match with a 6-2 decision at 125. The tenth-ranked
Gomez used a four-point first period to improve to 15-8 on the season, including 4-2 in dual meets.
The meet was also the last home competition for seniors

Nick Sanko.
The Bombers next compete at the ECWC Championships at Brockport on Feb. 25.
